1951
Foundation of the Monastery
On June 18, 1951, Galduwa Aranya Senasana was established with the vision of reviving the forest monastic tradition and preserving the original Theravada teachings in their purest form.
1953
First Upasampada Ceremony
On June 18, 1953, the first Higher Ordination (Upasampada) ceremony was held at the monastery, with twelve monks receiving full ordination — a landmark moment for the revival of the tradition.
1960
Growth of the Community
The monastery’s reputation for strict adherence to the Vinaya and commitment to meditation attracted a growing number of monks and lay supporters, establishing a strong foundation for future expansion.
1970–1980
Spreading the Dhamma
Branch monasteries began to be established across Sri Lanka and internationally, carrying the forest monastic tradition to new communities and extending the reach of the pure Dhamma.
Present Day
A Global Community
Today, the Sri Kalyani Yogasrama Sansthawa is associated with over 350 monasteries worldwide, with more than 1,000 ordained monks continuing the unbroken lineage of practice and service to the Dhamma.

Each of our associated monasteries serves as a centre for meditation, learning, and community, providing a sanctuary where the timeless wisdom of the Buddha can be practiced and experienced directly.
