Sibu Buddhist Society 2026 Year End Short-term Ordination & Meditation Retreat

🌿 Sarawak Sibu 2026 Year End

Cultivating Merits and Wisdom

Walking the Dhamma & Alms-round

10-Day Temporary Ordination,

Intensive Meditation Retreat,

Practice of the Ten Meritorious Deeds,

Dhamma Lecture Series for Wisdom Enhancement

"Cultivating Merits and Wisdom · Walking the Dhamma" echoes the practice of the Ten Meritorious Deeds (Dasa Puññakiriyavatthu) —the ten foundational wholesome actions for accumulating Pāramī (spiritual perfections) in Theravāda Buddhism, namely: Giving (Dāna), Virtue (Sīla), Meditation (Bhāvanā), Reverence (Apacāyana), Service (Veyyāvacca), Dedication of Merits (Pattidāna), Rejoicing in Others' Merits (Pattānumodanā), Hearing the Dhamma (Dhammasavana), Teaching the Dhamma (Dhammadesanā), and Straightening One's Views (Diṭṭhijukamma). Over the ten days, the Temporary Ordination and Intensive Meditation emphasise "Meditation" (Wisdom), while the alms-round, walking meditation, and daily chores embody "Giving, Virtue, and Service" (Merits)—forming a complete practice that advances both merits and wisdom together.

"Walking the Dhamma" points to the spirit of walking meditation and alms-round—it is not merely physical walking, but a practice of being mindful of body and mind with every step, subduing conceit, training the heart, and experiencing the Dhamma first-hand through each footstep.

As the year draws to a close, give yourself the gift of stillness. Step into Sibu Buddhist Society, and between each breath and every mindful step, cultivate merits, nurture wisdom, and find peace in the Dhamma.

From 5 December to 14 December 2026, DhammaJāta Arañña (Organiser) and Sibu Buddhist Society (Host) are pleased to jointly present this year-end 10-day Temporary Ordination and Intensive Meditation Retreat. This retreat integrates the experience of monastic precepts, intensive Samatha meditation, the collective practice of the Ten Meritorious Deeds, walking meditation, and alms-round practice—a complete journey of inner purification.

"All wholesome qualities, all aspirations, all mundane and supramundane happiness are accomplished on the foundation of these ten meritorious deeds."

In these 10 days, you will:

🧘 Temporary Ordination: Experience the serene life of the Saṅgha, living in accordance with the Vinaya discipline, free from worldly attachments.

🧠 Intensive Meditation: Daily alternating sitting and walking meditation, cultivating Samatha (tranquillity meditation).

🙏 Practice of the Ten Meritorious Deeds: Accumulate spiritual perfections through giving, virtue, meditation, reverence, service, dedication of merits, rejoicing, hearing the Dhamma, teaching the Dhamma, and straightening one's views.

🚶 Tudong Walking & Alms-round: Practise mindfulness with every step—subduing conceit, training the mind, and experiencing the Dhamma through walking.
