All DhammaJāta Arañña locations share the same application form—except for DhammaJāta Arañña Himalaya, which is only open during specific retreats.

Once confirmed, arrange your travel and inform us of your arrival date and time.

Important Information

Temporary Ordination (Sāmaṇera/Sayalay)

If you are new and wish to ordain as a temporary Sāmaṇera (novice monk) or Sayalay (nun), you are required to undergo a 7-day observation period upon arrival. During this time, you will participate as a lay meditator (yogi). After the observation period, your meditation teacher will assess your readiness and decide on your acceptance for temporary ordination.

Important Note:

To begin, please apply as a yogi. Once you arrive, you may express your intention to ordain directly to your respective meditation teacher.

What You Need to Know:

  • Bhikkhu = monk
  • Sāmanera = novice monk
  • Sayalay = nun
  • Yogi = lay person/non-monastic
  • All applications are reviewed individually
  • Confirmation typically takes 3-7 business days
  • Please provide accurate contact information

Community Standards

All participants are expected to follow the Five Precepts and maintain respectful conduct throughout their stay. This includes maintaining silence during designated times, following the daily schedule, and respecting the meditation environment for all practitioners.

Temporary Ordination Path

If you are interested in temporary ordination as a Sāmaṇera (novice monk) or Sayalay (nun), you will first participate as a lay meditator (yogi) for a 7-day observation period. Your meditation teacher will then assess your readiness and guide you through the ordination process.
