Butterworth Lay Buddhist Society Youth Dhamma Leadership Camp Day 1

Mettā Life Camp – Leadership Training Through the Dhamma (for Committee Members & Facilitators)

Dhamma Leadership Camp · Cultivating the Ten Meritorious Deeds Together

I. Camp Name Explained

Dhamma Education – Nurturing the physical, mental, and spiritual growth of youth through the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha's teachings.

Leadership Camp – Not about leading others, but about leading oneself. The highest leadership is self-mastery: self-discipline, mindfulness, wisdom, and compassion.

Ten Meritorious Deeds – The ten wholesome actions taught by the Buddha for accumulating merit and purifying the mind: Giving, Virtue, Meditation, Reverence, Service, Rejoicing, Transference of Merit, Listening to Dhamma, Teaching Dhamma, and Holding Right Views.

II. Key Features of the Camp

Established on Right View (Sammā-diṭṭhi)

Learning right understanding to build a clear, positive, and unwavering life direction. The Buddha said: "Right view is the forerunner."

Practiced through the Ten Meritorious Deeds

One wholesome deed each day — cultivating merit, purifying the mind, and strengthening character through action.

Aimed at True Leadership

A true leader is one who leads themselves. Through meditation, self-discipline, and service, we nurture in youth: self-mastery, awareness, gratitude, and a sense of responsibility.

Guided by Harmony

Group practice, sharing, and communal living — learning relationships, cooperation, and inclusiveness.

Completed with Dedication

The week's learning, practice, and insights are dedicated to all beings — developing a heart of generosity and compassion.
