Social Welfare & Compassionate Service

Dasa Kiriya Vatthu: Giving (Dāna) & Service (Veyyāvacca) — Cultivating Merit, Safeguarding Our Shared Home

"Among the eight fields of merit, caring for the sick is foremost. Giving and service remove greed, nurture compassion, and store provisions for liberation."
— Dasa Kiriya Vatthu (Ten Meritorious Deeds)

Cultivating Fields of Merit with Wholesome Service

DhammaJāta Hermitage upholds the Buddha's teaching that "caring for the sick is foremost among fields of merit." Centering on Giving (Dāna) and Service (Veyyāvacca) from the Ten Meritorious Deeds (Dasa Kiriya Vatthu), we actively promote social welfare initiatives including blood donation drives, free TCM medical consultations, volunteer emergency first-aid services, and environmental recycling.

Our Four Social Welfare Activities

Translating Buddhist compassion into concrete community wellness and environmental action.

🩸 Blood Donation

Giving life with compassion. "Among all givings, fearlessness is supreme." Donating blood provides life and hope to patients in critical need, planting selfless seeds of merit.

🌿 Free TCM Consultations

Relieving suffering with care. Providing acupuncture, cupping, massage, and meridian therapies, embodying the primary field of merit by serving the sick.

🚑 First-Aid Services

Protection in times of crisis. Providing emergency first-aid training and volunteer rescue services to safeguard community safety during critical moments.

♻️ Environmental Action

Safeguarding our home, blessing future generations. Environmental care is an act of giving to Mother Earth, protecting natural ecology and leaving a clean home.

I. Cherishing, Cultivating & Accumulating Merit

🙏 Cherishing Merit

Appreciating the health, environment, and wholesome conditions we possess; to cherish is to be truly grateful.

🌱 Cultivating Merit

🌟 Accumulating Merit

Dedicating cultivated merits to all beings, making wholesome kamma the stored provision for liberation.

II. Importance for Practice, Family, Society & Future Generations

1. 1. For Meditation & Spiritual Practice

Participating in wholesome service helps regulate energy, soften the heart, break ego-clinging, and build a quiet, stable foundation for meditation practice.

2. 2. For Family Wellbeing & Heritage

Participating together in blood drives, medical consultations, and environmental activities fosters family harmony and passes down moral virtue to future generations.

3. 3. For Society & Future Generations

Creating wholesome social connections, easing public burdens, and safeguarding natural ecology so that future generations inherit a pure and sustainable home.
